Hijack Hires New Collaborators!
After conducting a weeklong series of filmed interviews in Miami,
Art Hijack announces that the collective has officially hired the talents
of artists-curators Eric Doeringer and Renée Vara to replace founders
Trong G. Nguyen and Elana Rubinfeld.
Art Hijack, which for three years had consisted of just Nguyen and Rubinfeld,
abruptly took a detour when Nguyen and Rubinfeld separately and simultaneously
fired one another on February 29th, an unseasonably beautiful winter day.
In letters mailed
to one another and collectors, each claimed to be searching for the other’s
replacement. A call for resumes via email, Craigslist and NYFA
Classifieds took place. Hundreds applied, and six finalists were
chosen. Last week, at various locations in Miami’s South Beach during
the art fairs, the six were filmed and interviewed (the women by Nguyen
and the men by Rubinfeld). . In addition to Doeringer and Vara, the other
four exemplary candidates were Tom Brauer, Aimee
Pflieger Dolby, Nicollette Ramirez,
and Saul Zanolari.
Like the 007 or Doctor Who
series, Art Hijack views its constructed protagonists/art agents as interchangeable
roles that play out basic art world action scripts interweaving guile,
mystery, daring plot, gratuitous sex, and the promise of a bigger budget
sequel.
The filming and art direction was produced in collaboration with video
Intallation artist and music video director Eric
Tu. From these interviews, a four-channel video installation
will be presented as part of an inauguration ceremony this February, symbolizing
the official transfer of power from Nguyen/Rubinfeld to Doeringer/Vara. |
