Martial Art Karate

There are many different styles of martial arts and by far the most popular is the martial art Karate. What sets the martial art Karate apart from the rest is how and why it was developed. It developed out the basic necessity of survival by peaceful people and became a way of life. Karate became a formalized martial art that developed in Okinawa as a way of defending a culture against armed warriors.

The martial art Karate in its purest form is an art of weaponless self-defense. It is comprised of punches, kicks, and strikes executed in circular or linear thrusting and striking motions. Combining these techniques with proper breathing and body position, forming animal like stances, Karate becomes a self-defense system worthy of defending against an armed or unarmed assailant or assailants.

With roots dating back to China, Karate emerged as a martial art capable of withstanding any adversarial challenge.

Many of the techniques and self-defense philosophies within the Okinawan fighting systems came from the original form of Shaolin Kung Fu. The people of Okinawa did make minor changes to concentrate on power that would focus on inflicting injuries to opponents wearing armor.

Since Karate develops around the strengths of a practitioner some techniques were modified from original Kung Fu techniques to adapt to the physique of the Okinawan people and terrain of Okinawa.

Most martial arts have many essential aspects that make up the respective systems. Karate maintains the nine original essential aspects brought from China. Not many Karate practitioners know about these aspects nor do they practice all of them. The nine aspects of Karate are:

Breathing
Striking Vital Areas
Pressure Points
Joint Locks
Grappling
Pain Control
Throwing and Sweeping
Choking
Counters to all the above aspects

Through Okinawan Kata (forms) and drilling of basic techniques these aspects are practiced and perfected.

Within the Okinawan kata most of theses techniques are hidden movements. With some techniques just too dangerous to practice on another human being some of these nine essential aspects have been neglected, put aside, or just forgotten. Most Karate practitioners only concentrate on two or three of these.

The uniqueness of the martial art Karate is the powerful strikes a practitioner can deliver to an adversary. Through countless hours of training Karate practitioners develop physical and mental strengths that seem super human in nature.

A benefit from practicing the martial art Karate is that it builds extremely strong bodies. A practitioner not only develops strength in the body, but the mind as well. This keeps the Karate practitioner young and healthy.

Modern day Karate has evolved into a mixture of many martial arts. Traditionally, there were only two types of kicks – the back kick and the front kick. Today you find just about every type of kick within Karate, which more than likely was influenced by sport Karate. Karate was never intended to be a sport, but only for use in life or death confrontations.

Sport Karate evolved as a way for practitioners to test their skills against other martial artists. The first karate tournaments awarded points for a kill strike or blow. Today points are awarded for tagging the opponent, and in many cases these techniques in sport Karate lack power.

Understand one thing about the martial art Karate, the techniques practiced and if executed properly can deliver tremendous power making it an effective self-defense system for anybody regardless of their size and gender.

There are over 45 forms of mixed martial arts in the world. With these variations, there are millions of different practitioners worldwide. Dojos are built and maintained to cater to this number of martial artists. However, the need to eliminate costs and generate more profits seems to be much more of a challenge compared to teaching the arts.

One of the main areas where profit seems scarce is the Karate business. Karate means the art of kicking or punching. Based on the meaning, it is likely to knock any opponent out but in Karate business its strength does not seem to take effect.

Everyday, more karate dojos lose business because of the stiff competition surrounding it. These dojos may have the best locations in their area. They may have the best teachers and facilities, yet their operations have gone into a standstill. Why? I believe the reason is poor business strategy.

Developing strategic methods does not necessarily mean conducting extensive researches, no; we do not have time for that.

It simply means understanding your market and using your advantages as your edge. Just like in the art of Karate, you have to learn how to use your bare hands and knees as weapons. Create a plan and stick to it.

A karate business plan does not need to be all that grand. It only has to include four main parts: A. Objectives, B. Mission, C. Keys to Success, and D. How to Use these Keys. The objectives should include your goals. It may a combination of tangible and intangible. Under the mission portion, it should have what you envision your Karate business would look like. It’s like seeing it from dream, only that you know it’s not. The keys to success are those factors that you find unique to your Karate business.

It could be that the location is convenient for all your students. It could be the cleanliness of the dojo and the quality of the equipments that you have. Most importantly, it could be the kind of instructors that you hire. And lastly, using the key elements that you have discovered; what are the steps that you should take in order to realize your mission and achieve your goal? Formulate your own Karate business plan using this formula and watch your profits grow.

It is vital that you include in your karate business plan the impression you wish a student would have as soon as he/she steps into your dojo. Statistics say that one of the primary reasons why a martial arts student would quit is because of the first impression he had. Remember, it’s all about giving the correct mindset.

With a very good plan, martial arts success would be at hand. Martial Arts success has two faces. One is for the shihan or he who owns the dojo. Success for him would mean the satisfaction of seeing new faces as well as the profit he would get. Not to mention keeping illness at bay through regular exercise. Martial Arts success would also benefit the student. Not only will he learn the different levels of discipline, he will also add another hour to his life free from stress. Studies show that mixed martial arts is a form of exercise and meditation that leads to reduced tension, anxiety, depression, and anger.

So, start developing your own Karate business plan and welcome to the world of success.

Art Schools Options

Many who choose to pursue a career in art have thought of California as the ideal state in which to do that. This idea is informed by such important factors as the proximity of most art and film institutions to Hollywood as well as their capability to handle this particular line.

Others are simply motivated by the beautiful weather and many other reasons. Regardless of your source for inspiration, there are numerous art schools to pick from in making the final decision. Such a decision is made rather easy when one knows what to look for in the school of choice. Here are a number of factors on which there can be no compromise:

Carry out some research on the area of strength of a particular institution. The field of arts has so much to offer – performing arts, drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, etc. Different schools handle these specific areas differently depending on their level of experience in the area and the expertise of instructors.

Find out what institution does best in the particular category that is of interest to you. You could do that by speaking to alumni or reading up on the institutions performance.

If you would like to study on scholarship basis, look for institutions that offer that provision. Assess your chances of qualifying for the program according to the requirements set out. Pick the one that seems most likely to grant you the scholarship.

Accredited art schools should certainly be top on the list of choice. This is because they have to have shown high quality levels in order to qualify for the certification. The implication of that is that you can expect a good standard of education from them at least on the basis of national standards.

The faculty of a particular institution matters a lot also. If they make available the services of big names in the industry, then this is a great advantage to the students. Some of them feature renowned personalities as full-time instructors while others offer the privilege every once-in-a-while.

This provision would enable the student to get a realistic perspective on the industry and the career path generally.

The opportunity to utilize relevant equipment of a certain field of study is another advantage that one should look for in an institution. Theoretical art studies are not really beneficial in the long run.

Employers want people who only require little training once they get hired and therefore you need to study in a place where you have access to up-to-date equipment. Find this out beforehand because getting stuck in such a college would be a waste of resources.

Its location in relation to areas of interest matter a lot if your choice of California was pegged on proximity to such places as Hollywood or Silicon Valley. Art schools located in these areas provide students the unique opportunity to work part-time while in session.

The variety of art schools California provides ample options for all interested persons. Assess the suitability of these art schools against these factors and make a wise pick. California Art Schools provides a range of different kinds of subjects to choose from

For local talent, head to the Andriesse gallery, which is located along the waterfront east of Centraal Station. The Andriesse is the reason that there are several art galleries in this area, though none can beat its collection of art from esteemed creators like Thomas Struth, Marlene Dumas and Jean-Marc Bustamante. However, if you wish to explore the surrounding area, you’ll run into other galleries like Art Affairs, 2×2 Projects and the delightful Gist.

Design objects and furniture are the flavour of the day at the Binnen gallery, where you’ll be able to enjoy an exploration of innovative ways that designers have sought to turn the world inside our homes into art.

There is both a permanent collection and frequent shows, meaning there’s always something new and exciting to see here.

If you’re heading on one of the Eurostar short breaks to Amsterdam, you can rest assured that you won’t be short of art galleries to visit. With a reputation for a cutting edge modern art scene, as well as an impressive volume of galleries housing collections from previous generations of both local and international talent, there’s truly something for everyone in this beautiful and welcoming city. So whatever style of art you most love to view on a lazy Sunday afternoon, you can be sure you’ll find it in droves in Amsterdam.

The Art Of Silat

One of the most effective martial art defense styles for the street is the Silat. Silat is the official martial art style of Malaysia. This martial art is divided into two categories. First is the Silat Olahraga, the combat style. Second is the Silat Seni, the performance style. Most of the Malaysian parents enrolled their children to Silat academy. Silat students are taught about self discipline, bravery, respect and self defense.

This art’s ranking system is consisting of seven levels. Each level certifies your level of mastery. Belt rankings are arranged as white, blue, brown, yellow, green, red and black. In each level you will have to master seven different techniques. One of the most effective training in Silat is the Buah Pukulan. This training is mostly consisting of self defense. The training will teach you on how to handle your opponent.

This includes receiving attacks from different angles and the right way to counter your enemy, even if he is larger than you.

If you train in Silat, you will learn how to defend yourself, with or without weapons. Once you reach the red and black belt, you will learn how to use various kinds of weapon. Such as, machete, knife, dagger, stick and keris. In addition, you will be taught on how to control your emotions during a battle. This psychological training will help you focus whenever you are fighting one or more opponents. Anyhow, it is always better to keep away from any troubles. However if you cannot avoid the quarrel there are two options that you can choose from.

Your first option is to fight your opponent without hurting him. The purpose of learning this art is to avoid clashes as possible as you can. If you are able to seize your opponent without inflecting so much damage in him, there is a great possibility for both of you to apologize in each other. The best way to execute this technique is to attack your opponent’s weak limbs such as knee, elbow, wrist and shoulder.

Your second option is to attack your opponent just before he attacks you. You can use this method whenever you are facing two or more opponents. In addition, this method is also effective to use, if your opponent is using a weapon. When you use this method, make sure to strike the weakest part of your opponent such as, hear, stomach, eyes, ribs and neck.

Silat is considered as the most effective style of martial art, because students in this art are taught not to fight. However, if they cannot avoid a fight, they can use the Silat’s form of fighting. The motto of this art is to avoid a fight unless you are in a very dangerous situation. Silat teachers carefully choose the persons whom they will be teaching. Because, this art is very dangerous and can easily kill a person, if use in the wrong reason.
